The GolGadi story

What we pass on
deserves our care.

Stories passed through generations. A simple idea at the heart of everything we are beginning.

Memory / craft / continuity

Based in Bengaluru.
Beginning in Odisha and Karnataka.

A name with a feeling

In GolGadi's founding idea, the name holds a familiar Marwari childhood memory: an elder making a playful cradle with bent legs for a child. It is a small gesture of warmth, trust and care between generations.

That feeling gives us a way to think about craft. Knowledge is passed on through watching, practising, correcting a line and trying again. What reaches us as an object is also part of a relationship between people.

A beginning, close to home

We are building GolGadi from Bengaluru, with an initial focus on Talapatra and Pattachitra painting from Odisha, and Channapatna toys and figurines from Karnataka. These are different materials and different ways of making. Together, they offer a thoughtful place to begin.

Our first task is to understand and introduce the traditions, then connect with the people who practise them. We want future collections to make room for the maker's name, the origin of a piece and the work that goes into it.

Room for the maker's own voice

A craft overview cannot tell an individual artisan's story. That story belongs to its maker. We invite artisans, family workshops and craft groups to share their work, correct what needs correcting and help shape how it is presented.

We are at the beginning of this journey. Our purpose is to help people look beyond an object's surface and build more informed connections with the traditions behind it.
